Well, of course it wasn't. I mean, there's nothing I enjoy more than a good whinge (with the possible exception of lying on a couch and trying, but being unable, to whinge because nubile young women are pushing chocolate into my mouth every time I open it), but it was really quite cool.
By it, I refer to the Freeway Bike Ride. Unlike dunq, I was in Category C, which was much easier than I could have handled. I spent the first twenty kilometers cycling next to a guy who turned out to be an ex-Professor of General Practice, and we had a very interesting chat.
When he stopped to get a drink at the 20km mark, I burned off, but ran into the family groups leaving Greenwood station. Kids everywhere, and it wasn't much fun for the faster riders (those actually peddling).
I only saw one spill, but she went over hard and stayed down. A few others managed to stop and help her off the path.
Once I got to the end at Joondalup, (I'm in the photos on the BUG website, on the left-hand side of the very last photo) I wasn't feeling particularly tired, so I followed Peter and Chris down the freeway. I ended up hauling all the way into Perth with a group of three others who had parked in Matilda Bay, so I followed them down to Barrack Street, left them at the belltower when they stopped for a snack and powered on home.
All in all, I did about 70km, as well as being complemented on my level of fitness in getting the bike I was riding up to the speeds I did on the way home. I think I must have slipped into a parallel universe for a period of time.
