What you do is listen to the radio for a while, and you hear a song you really like. Then the announcer says "...and you can get that for free as an MP3 from the Triple J website..." - so you then shoot over to the downloads page. There, you can download completely legal MP3s of some of the more popular tracks on the radio station, and they don't come encumbered with stupid copy-protection schemes.
I generally download everything that's available and keep the stuff I like. I've managed to pick up The Inches' Undercover, Sonicanimation's Love Puppet, Tambalane's Little Miss Liar, Rhubarb's Start Again, The Panics' My Best Mistake and Paul Mac's Panic Room. Some great tracks across quite a few genres.
Head on over to Triple J - Free Music and find something you like.

How do you actually save the music though??

Right-click. 'Save target as', or something similar depending on browser.
Unless you're in Opera. Then just left-click.

And now that Opera is free (but not Free), you too can ignore your system MIME types!

and it's good that they have it cos it's hard to pick up some of that stuff anywhere else.
