[Previous entry: "Yes, I occasionally enjoy using computers"] [Next entry: "I may need to get out more"] I went on the Freeway Bike Hike again this year - unlike last year, I knew what to expect, although I was riding with a different group of people. The UCC C Division team (Cameron and his dad, Harry, my dad and I) managed to find each other with surprisingly little incident, although we had to sneak Cameron's bike in through the fence so we could set off together.

Unfortunately, as Cameron has already explained, he took a bit of a tumble, and ended up requiring medical attention (and rightly so, as it turned out), so we sat at the side of the road with him and waved at the D division riders. I also took the opportunity to write 'Clean me' on the walls of the Northbridge tunnel - how could I resist the chance to be at the cutting edge of humor?

The fellowship was broken fairly rapidly - Harry was a much more accomplished cycle than Dad or I, so he set off while I had a nice leisurely ride exploiting the fact that Dad's not as young as he used to be, or more importantly not as young as me.

The ride up was very smooth again, although there was a bit of a stiff breeze at times. One couple offered to sell their tandem to me, for the rather exorbitant price of $12 million. Luckily, although we had to weave our way through D division and the back end of C division, they held the families back at the Greenwood station so there weren't too many kids wandering all over the road.

I think we got to Joondalup at about 9:45 after setting off at 8, but it was probably only about an hour and ten minutes of actual riding... not too bad, really.

Dad wasn't interested in riding home (although I think it would have been faster than waiting for the train), so I followed Harry along to the sea and down the coast. The Sunshine Coast cycle path (or whatever it's called) made me realise how easy it is to turn into one of those militant cyclist chumps who yell at people as they hurtle past - there were dozens of people who just didn't watch where they were going, including a ute who decided to drive off a dune right as I was coming past.

We cut through the northern suburbs, headed the wrong way up the railway line before realising and turning around, and eventually went to see how Cameron was doing at SCGH. Saw a couple of fifth-years wandering around, dealing with those pesky patients, gawked at Cameron's X-ray, told and eventually headed home for lunch.

UCC will be fielding an even bigger team for the City of Perth Great Bike Ride - we will be there with bells on!

In retrospect, that was the worst joke I have ever made.

And I never even learned how to ride.

I'm pretty sure I haven't heard a worse joke from you. Ugh. *hits*

What is this bike ride of which you speak, that is coming up?

Also I have never heard of these people who you claim are from UCC...
