[Previous entry: "Come fly with me"] [Next entry: "Showing mixed promise"] Today I reapplied for my Working With Children Check, the police clearance that isn't a police clearance. The process for acquiring this much-vaunted plastic card is somewhat Kafkaesque; we are carefully protecting our children from users of blue pens, for example.

Setting that aside, I was today informed that the rules for the photos for these cards has recently changed: you are now allowed to smile in the photo. The stoned frown on my previous card will soon be replaced by a manic grin! The obvious conclusion is that the WWCC screening unit has decided to employ cutting-edge behaviour detection in the form of the pedosmile.

(Bonus potential fact: in NSW, you can be apparently be charged if you make a child feel unsafe, regardless of intention.)
